Short Term Residence:

How Many Times Can a Short Term Residence Permit be Extended?

 The short-term residence permit is granted to foreigners who are coming to Turkey for scientific research, owning real estate in the country, establishing a commercial connection or business, participating in in-service training programs, coming for educational or similar purposes within the framework of agreements to which the country is a party or student exchange programs, staying for tourism purposes and at the request or decision of judicial or administrative authorities depending on foreign short-term residence permit are required to remain in Turkey. The short-term residence permit is extended as follows:

  • Short-term residence permits are issued for a maximum of two years each time, except for foreigners who are TRNC citizens.
  • There is no limit on the number of extensions.

 

In Which Cases Is A Short-Term Residence Permit Canceled?

 A short-term residence permit is canceled in the following cases:

  • Failure to fulfill one or more of the conditions for a short-term residence permit,
  • If it is determined that the residence permit is used for purposes other than the purpose of which it was issued,
  • The existence of a valid deportation or entry ban on the country,
  • Violation in terms of duration of stay abroad

 

Family Residence Permit:

How Many Times Can Family Residence Permit Be Extended?

A family residence permit is granted to the foreign spouse of Turkish citizens or foreigners holding one of their residence permits, their own or their spouse's minor foreign children, and their own or their dependent foreign children. The family residence permit is extended as follows:

  • The family residence permit is issued for not exceeding three years each time.
  • The duration of the family residence permit cannot exceed the duration of the sponsor's residence permit in any way.

  • Failure to fulfill or eliminate the conditions for a family residence permit,

Student Residence Permit:

How Many Times Can A Student Residence Permit Be Extended?

A residence permit is granted to foreign students in the levels of bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees at a higher education institution in Turkey. The student residence permit is extended as follows: 

  • If the duration of the foreign student's education is less than one year, the duration of the student residence permit cannot exceed the study period.
  • Foreigners who come to study in the country through public institutions and organizations can be given a residence permit during their education. Therefore, it is not possible to extend the student residence permit at the end of the study period.

Foreigners who will receive primary and secondary education, whose care and expenses are undertaken by a natural or legal person, can be given and extended for one year during their education, with the consent of their parents or legal representatives.

 A student residence permit is canceled in the following cases:

  • Failure to meet or eliminate the conditions for issuing a student residence permit,
  • The emergence of evidence that he cannot continue his education,
  • Determining that the student residence permit is used outside of the purpose for which it was issued,

Long Term Residence Permit

How Many Times Can a Long-Term Residence Permit Be Extended?

 Foreigners who have stayed in the country with a residence permit for at least eight uninterrupted years or who comply with the conditions determined by the Migration Policies Board are given an indefinite long-term residence permit by the governorships with the approval of the Ministry. The long-term residence permit is extended as follows:

  • The Long Term residence permit is issued indefinitely. Therefore, it does not need to be extended again.

 

In Which Cases Is The Long-Term Residence Permit Canceled?

The long-term residence permit is canceled in the following cases:

  • The foreigner poses a serious threat to public order or public security,
  • A long-term residence permit is canceled if he/she is out of the country for more than one year uninterruptedly for reasons other than health, education, and compulsory public service in his country.

 

 

Humanitarian Residence Permit:

How Many Times Can a Humanitarian Residence Permit be Extended?

A humanitarian residence permit is given by the governorships in case of the existence of the conditions specified in Article 46 of Law No. 6458. The circumstances in which this permission may be granted are generally based on the existence of extraordinary conditions. The humanitarian residence permit is extended as follows:

  • A humanitarian residence permit is granted and can be extended by the governorships, provided that the approval of the Ministry is obtained and for one year at most. Re-extension is subject to governorship decisions.

 

In Which Cases Is Humanitarian Residence Permit Canceled?

A humanitarian residence permit is canceled in the following cases:

  • The humanitarian residence permit is canceled by the governorships and cannot be extended, provided that the approval of the Ministry is obtained when the conditions that require the permission to be granted disappear.

 

 

Residence permit for victims of trafficking:

How Many Times Can a Residence permit for victims of trafficking be Extended?

 A residence permit for victims of trafficking is a thirty-day residence permit granted by governorships to foreigners who are strongly suspected of being or maybe a victim of human trafficking, to be able to get rid of the effects of their experiences and decide whether to cooperate with the authorities, by following per under Article 48 of Law No. 6458. The conditions for issuing other residence permits are not sought in this residence permit. The residence permit, which is given to allow recovery and reflection, can be extended for a maximum of six months due to the safety, health, or special condition of the victim, but the duration of the permit cannot exceed three years in total. The residence permit for victims of human trafficking is extended as follows:

  • The residence permit for victims of human trafficking is issued by the governorships for thirty days. Residence permits for victims of human trafficking can be extended for a maximum of six months, but these periods cannot exceed three years in total. Therefore, the residence permit for victims of human trafficking can be extended up to 5 times.

 

In Which Cases Is A Residence permit for victims of trafficking Canceled?

A victim of human trafficking residence permit is canceled in the following cases: 

  • Determination of the foreigner's initiative to reconnect with the perpetrators of the crime,
  • Failure to comply with the obligations brought,
  • If it is understood that the foreigner is not a victim, the residence permit for the victim of human trafficking is canceled.

However, the residence permit will not be revoked if it is determined that the listed situations have been done against their will due to reasons such as coercion, intimidation, violence, and threats.
